Growing Friends- Smethwick

Growing Friends- Smethwick

Growing healthier, stronger communities through gardening, connection, and nature-based learning.

Growing Friends Smethwick is a two-year community gardening initiative delivered in partnership with North Smethwick Development Trust. Designed to transform outdoor spaces and bring people together, the project focuses on growing fresh food, improving wellbeing, and building lasting community connections.

Through weekly sessions, residents of all ages and backgrounds come together to learn, plant, nurture, and harvest — gaining valuable skills in food growing, healthy eating, and environmental stewardship. Our inclusive approach supports not just individuals, but the wider community’s health, happiness, and resilience.

What We Offer
  • Weekly hands-on gardening sessions led by experienced facilitators
  • Opportunities to grow fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables
  • Workshops covering key skills such as composting, seed sowing, harvesting, and sustainability practices
  • A safe, welcoming space for social connection, confidence building, and mental wellbeing
  • Community celebration events to showcase achievements and strengthen local pride
  • Pathways for volunteering, skills development, and work experience

Growing Friends helps reconnect communities to food, nature, and each other — nurturing a sense of ownership, belonging, and purpose.
