Storytelling Orchard- Gardening Project

Storytelling Orchard- Gardening Project

In collaboration with Red Earth Collective CIC and funded by the People's Health Trust, we are proud to create a sanctuary for the African and Caribbean community. The Storytelling Orchard is located within our Handsworth Earth Gardens site and is a much-needed two-year project. This special space weaves together the healing power of nature, storytelling, and shared cultural heritage to nurture emotional and physical wellbeing.

The Storytelling Orchard offers a place where ancestral traditions, connections, and empowerment are honoured and celebrated. Here, participants are invited to rediscover their roots, build resilience, and foster a deep sense of belonging.

Through the seasonal cycles of planting, tending, and storytelling, the Orchard becomes a living symbol of growth — both in the land and in the spirit. It reminds us that no matter the season, the seeds of strength, healing, and community are always present and ready to flourish.

Participants will learn:

  • How to care for plants and flowers
  • Techniques to reduce stress and enhance mental well-being
  • Ways to connect with nature and themselves

It also provides the opportunity to:

  • Meet new people in a calm, supportive environment
  • Discover new gardening skills
  • Support mental well-being through engaging with nature
